“The salt tasting”

A tasting of 6 unique salts presented in a tasting panel, from countries like Pakistan, Namibia, Poland, Utah in the United States, The Murray River in Australia, a local smoked Khoisan salt and a Viking salt reflecting there different tastes, textures and flavours. We will also delve into the history of salt and different cooking techniques, dating back 2000 years.

Craig will then take you on a salty journey to get you up close and personal with various salts from around the world. He will show different dishes made with this kitchen essential bringing out the best in the wines. Craig shows us how these salts react with the dishes he prepares and matches them with some of the wines from the Hidden Valley Estate.

The Friends of the Helderberg: Sunset Concerts

This year’s Sunset Concerts season at the Helderberg Nature Reserve looks set to be more popular than ever, with a diverse range of entertainers in an expanded programme of nine concerts.

Concert audiences will be sure to enjoy the benefits of the new stage which allows for all performers to be easily seen and heard, whilst the newly established lawn provides lots of space for chairs and picnic blankets.

Visitors to the first three concerts will also find a new Art Exhibition showing in the Information Centre next to the concert venue. The exhibition consists of original watercolour paintings by the renowned landscape artist Stephen Quirke, a resident of Somerset West. The exhibition will be open on the concert Sundays in November and December.

As can be seen from the programme, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Extended parking arrangements have been put in place. Tickets will be sold at the gate on the day of entry.

The proceeds of the concerts are used to support environmental education projects at the Reserve.
